Andrew Reeves’ second independent record “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere” is set for release on May 1, 2009. His previous record is 2007’s critically acclaimed “1048 West Kensington Road”. UK music website Leicester Bangs said of the latter, “His voice is mixed low and is sometimes a little out—it doesn’t matter. A contaminated, Americanized John Cale might come close. Recommended.”
Reeves has recorded and released all previous material with no label assistance and plans to continue working this way, in what he calls the “outsider channel” of the music industry. For him, maintaining control of his art is of utmost importance. Reeves’ strong desire for independence and his eclectic influences can be heard in his music, which blends Americana and psychedelic rock. His honest, storytelling lyrics only add to the uniqueness of the songs. Influenced by everything from Neil Young to Pink Floyd, Reeves has truly created a sound of his own.
Moving from fast-paced Los Angeles to Austin, Texas inspired the sounds of Reeves’ upcoming album. The laid-back atmosphere of Austin encouraged him to take time to craft the record. He also experimented with new instruments and production techniques. For the first time in his career, Reeves will be playing with a backup band that he formed while working on “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere”. Look for Andrew Reeves and his band this year as they tour the United States.
